High-Tech Rotor Coating Service
High-Tech Internal Bore Case Coating Service
Maximize your supercharger’s performance potential by adding our High-Tech Coating to any of our Rotor Assembly Rebuild Services. ESM uses these special coatings to tighten up the case-to-rotor clearances. Does that mean we offer Rotor Coating Services for your Eaton supercharger? To answer your questions; Yes we re-coat all Eaton rotors. Our Internal Rotor Bore Case Coating Services are designed to control heat and can be used to repair scratches and some gouges on damaged internal rotor bores. This Case Coating service is available with all of our Supercharger Rebuild Services that include replacing the rotor needle bearings. Both these coating services give blower owners more choices to rebuild to their specific application.
Yes, we are aware of the black coating on the Gen5 Eatons. It is a rubbery interference fit coating that wears in over time to establish the correct clearences for the rotors and case. Our coating is different than this. Ours is similar to the coating applied to piston skirts. We can rebuild superchargers with the black coating, sometimes even with mild damage to the coating.
Compared to uncoated rotors, our special coating process significantly reduces metal-to-air heat-transfer. It also gives air a much smoother surface to pass over, creating less friction, thereby requiring less supercharger drive horsepower. That puts more horsepower to the rear wheels, where it belongs.
When we are preparing your supercharger for the coating process, we check the assembled supercharger's clearences first. Then we coat to achieve the correct clearences with our multi-layered dual coating process. After the rotors are coated, during reassembly, the rotors are set to optimum clearences related to your case. We can rebuild part or all of the supercharger, depending upon what is needed to bring it back to operating status. The rotor assembly will need to be rebuilt in order to coat the rotors.
There are two distinct coatings applied. The first coating is TLMB, a polymer for adhesion and wear-resistance. This coating will not scuff if the rotors make light contact at high RPM. The second coating is TLML, which is fused to the first coating. The second coating is slippery and will not gall. It provides a slick surface for the air to slide over to reduce friction and heat. The clearance between the rotor flutes and case tightens up because of the coating’s .005 thickness. Leakage is reduced, increasing the roots-type supercharger’s efficiency. Minor scratches can be rejuvenated with coating, as well. These coatings and the application process are supplied by JCM Machine & Coating. www.JCMmachine.com
All our rebuild services include high-quality replacement parts that are equal to or an upgrade of the original product components. You can have us replace the snout front seal with a Premium Viton double-lip spring seal for an excellent and inexpensive performance upgrade. This is especially important if you plan to run higher boost levels with your supercharger because the Viton seal can handle higher pressure and has a longer life than a standard seal. This parts-upgrade seal option is available with any of the supercharger rebuild services and can also be purchased in our various do-it-yourself rebuild component kits. Rejuvenate your supercharger and rotor assembly, with our top quality kits & services.
When a supercharger has a problem and is under the car manufacturer’s warranty, it makes sense to ask them to replace it at no cost to you. An out-of-warranty replacement for your worn or damaged supercharger, made by the original manufacturer is usually priced around $1200—$3900 and up depending on the model and generation. ESM’s rebuild products and services provide high-quality alternatives with premium options for a more powerful supercharger. Check out our Supercharger Diagnostic Information chart to help determine what services and products your supercharger needs. Call Wade Embree at (314) 277-7414 or email us at sales@thehighspeedlab.com for Technical Support and to make purchase arrangements.
ESM’s Eaton TVS and Eaton M-series Supercharger Complete Rebuild Services are available with various optional Rotor Assembly Rebuild Services. The rotor rebuild services include the replacement of the rotor bearings and seals, with precision rotor re-timing for optimum performance. Bearings and Seals are replaced with SFK bearings and Viton double-lip spring seals. Consider adding our Optional Rotor and/or Case Coating at the same time.
We offer many choices so that you can have your supercharger re-manufactured to your performance wants and application needs. Even if your performance-enhanced Supercharger has been rebuilt recently, it can be sent in to have the Rotor Assembly removed, stripped if chipped, coated and reinstalled without any other work being performed. This is a great option if you’ve already had your supercharger rebuilt and ported but, would like or need to have your rotors rebuilt. If you looked but could not find anyone to rebuild your rotors before now... wait no more! ESM has done the Research & Development to bring you this important service. Call or email, we’ll help you pick the products and services your supercharged vehicle needs, based on your performance goals.

Ford made about 10,000 supercharged Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 each year of production. According to Wikipedia, they made 687 of those with the Saleen Whipple kit and the rest use this Eaton TVS, Twin Vortices Series. The production run started in May 2006. Eaton and Roush consider the Eaton TVS Supercharger more thermally efficient than the Eaton M122 Supercharger due to the new 4-lobe rotor design.
*"What is the most common cause of a new or moderately used Eaton Supercharger to fail prematurely?"
One of the most common modifications made to the Eaton Supercharger is replacing the supercharger drive pulley, located on the snout, with a smaller diameter pulley. This change is intended to get more out of the supercharger by changing the drive ratio of the crank pulley to the supercharger pulley, thereby driving the blower "a little bit harder".
If an Impact is used to change the supercharger snout pulley, it will most likely damage the rotor timing by hammering the gear backlash all to one side. The rotors should never make contact. The gears should hold them apart. The hammering of an impact will lead to catastrophic failure if the supercharger is used with the timing out by even a minute amount. A change in the gear timing of .001-.003" is enough to cause a serious problem.
"Oh no! I have already changed my supercharger snout pulley."
If you suspect you have changed the timing, do not run the supercharger, at all. We may be able to reset your rotor assembly back to the proper operating tolerances without alot of expensive repair work.
"Ugh! I've already turned the car on and driven it. Now the supercharger is making noise during operation. Even worse, it's not working as well as it did before. What do I do now?"
If you use it and then discover the pulley change has created a problem, stop using the supercharger at the first sign of trouble, including any new noises.
"What do I do if I have to drive the car for a few days before I can work on it? Or I am away from home when I realize I have a problem with the supercharger?"
You can take the supercharger drive belt off and just drive on the bypass until you can get to a garage to remove the supercharger. There will be a power reduction but you will limit damage to the supercharger.
"What problems will it cause if I damaged my rotors and/or the rotor coating? Can they be repaired and/or recoated?"
If the rotors have made light contact they may still be usable as is. There is a certain percentage of loss in coating that will have no noticible impact on performance. If major damage has occurred, your supercharger can still be repaired in almost all cases. We can recoat the rotors if the coating is damaged. We can even repair bearing bores and replace shafts, if there is severe damage. The less damage you do, the less there will be to fix.
"So how do I change the pulley and avoid this problem with the rotor assembly timing?"
You can send it to us to change the pulley in the first place. We can change it without damaging the timing for a reasonable price.
Or, you can drain the oil out of the supercharger snout and carefully remove it. Be careful not to break the seal between the rotor assembly and the supercharger case/housing. If you do, you will need to thoroughly clean these flanges and re-seal them just as you will the snout to rotor assembly plate seal. Now that the snout shaft is not connected to the rotors, it is safe to use an impact to remove the main snout bolt. On occassion, we have seen Eaton's that have the threads of the snout bolt snapped off the end of the shaft. In all cases, an impact was being used to attempt pulley removal. We can make new shafts but it is a rescue and repair cost that can been avoided.
Always keep all foreign objects and debris out of the rotors when working with the supercharger. It takes very little debris to cause a major failure. If you can see it, then the particle is big enough to cause damage.
